Geography of Goa
Goa is located in the western
part of India along the Konkan coast and between Latitudes 15 degrees,
48'00" N and between 14 degrees, 53'54" N and Longitudes 74 degrees,
20'13" E and 73 degrees 40" 33" E. It is surrounded by Sindhudurg district of Maharastra in the north, Arabian Sea in the West, Karwar district of Karnataka in the south and Belgaum district of Karnataka in the East. It has a coastline of 104 km. The capital of Goa is Panaji located in North Goa.
Konkan
region rises up to the Western Ghats, which separate it from the Deccan
Plateau. The highest mountain is Sonsogor in the Sahyadri range of the
Western Ghats which is 3,827 feet. Goa’s soil is basically made up of
laterites which is reddish in colour. The soil is also rich in ferric aluminium oxides. It is not suitable for farming in some parts of the state.
